post-congress session

Soils in the historic area of Lednica Lake

The session will take place in the area of the beginnings of Polish State, characterized by extraordinary natural and historical values. The main part of the excursion will be carried out in the Wielkopolska Ethnographic Park, which is part of the Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica. The diversity of the soil cover found here is a reflection of the varied geomorphological, as well as climatic and plant conditions with a special role of broadleafe forests, dominated with Oaks and Hornbeams. The influence of the aforementioned plant cover, was confirmed by palaeoecological research. Unfortunately, nowadays this area is one of the most deforested in the region of Greater Poland. During the session, the most interesting results of long-term interdisciplinary research in the field of archeology, geomorphology, geology, hydrology, soil science and palaeoecology will be presented by organizers. During the session, specific soils of different origins, resulting from natural factors and long-term human activity, will be presented. As part of these two-day session, it is also planned to visit the most important historical places of this area, such as: Ostrów Lednicki, Pola Lednickie and the city of Gniezno.
